Across the Northern Territory, Healthy Living NT is standing up for people living with all types of diabetes to ensure they can access the diabetes technologies they need at an affordable cost.
We regularly hear from individuals and families who share how technologies such as glucose monitoring devices and insulin pumps have dramatically improved their daily management and overall wellbeing. At the same time, many tell us that cost and eligibility barriers prevent equal access.
To help address this, Healthy Living NT has partnered with leading diabetes organisations nationwide to lodge a joint submission to the Federal Government, calling for stronger investment and expanded funding for diabetes technology.
We encourage you to read the submissions below and learn more about this important advocacy initiative.
Federal Budget Submission 1 recommends subsidising insulin pumps to increase to access to Automatic Insulin Delivery (AID) for people with type 1 diabetes. Only around 30% of Australians living with type 1 diabetes can access an insulin pump, despite international and national guidelines recommending AID as standard care.

Federal Budget Submission 2 recommends expanding the subsidy for Continuous Glucose Monitors (CGM) to people with type 2 diabetes and other forms of diabetes, with a focus on priority groups. The evidence is clear that CGMs are life-changing for people living with diabetes, with improved health, reduced risk of diabetes complications, and they are a cost-effective investment for the health system.
